COOL DESIGNS, HOT WHEELS – An exhibit at Children’s Hospital Boston featured the works of automotive
design innovator Harry Bentley Bradley, grandson of school founder Harry C. Bentley. Over the decades,
Bradley designed cars for the major automakers while also creating some of the most memorable custom
cars around, including the Oscar Meyer “Weinermobile.” He also designed all of the first 16 Hot Wheels
cars for Mattel. An ardent supporter of the university, Bradley also has a special affinity for Children’s
Hospital. He spent seven months there in 1949, after polio left him paralyzed from the waist down at the
age of 14. Photo by Brian Smith
