Financial planning is critical, no matter when you graduated. Many people conduct an annual review of their financial affairs, and this year, investment market conditions and other economic factors make it especially important to explore all financial planning options. Bentley has much to offer. We understand that many considerations go into planning for a charitable gift: what to give, when to give, how to give, and how much to give. The Office of Gift Planning can provide information and suggestions for making the most of your charitable dollars, while helping your alma mater continue its tradition of excellence.

Beryl (Hardacker) Bunker ’58, a former senior vice president at John Hancock and longtime advocate for
women’s education, has also led by example as a philanthropist.

“I will always be deeply grateful to the organizations that helped me achieve the

success I have enjoyed in my life,” says Bunker. “Charitable gift annuities allow me

to fulfill my commitment to philanthropy in a responsible and gratifying manner.

A gift annuity supports the academic goals of the university, and provides me with

tax deductions and consistent cash flow. I encourage other alumni to use them.”

OPENING AN OPPORTUNITY Bentley alumni and families from Puerto Rico are working

together to provide scholarship support for shining stars from their island. Architects of the new Puerto Rico Scholarship

Fund aim to raise $25,000 each year. The money will provide financial aid to two high-achieving students.

The university’s reputation in the U.S. territory continues to grow. Bentley currently enrolls 26 undergraduates from Puerto Rico — including nine freshmen.

“I’m getting a great education, interacting daily with students from Puerto Rico and around the world, and living in the Boston area,” says Vivian Rivero ’09, who is pictured at left. “It doesn’t get much better than that.”

All alumni, parents and friends are invited to a special gathering in Puerto Rico with President Gloria Cordes Larson at the home of Brenda and Nelson Menda, parents of Jacqueline ’ 10, on Saturday, March 28, 2009.

For more information on this event, as well as the Puerto Rico Scholarship Fund, please contact Melissa Rogers, senior philanthropic adviser, at 781.891.2052 or mrogers@bentley.edu.
